Business Information Visualization

Participants will learn how interactive visualization techniques can be effectively applied to the exploration and understanding of multidimensional business data. They will become familiar with techniques appropriate for large-scale, dynamic, transactional, and other types of data and with methods useful for various types of business applications. They will develop an understanding of software tools that are available and how they can be used for various data and applications.

Objective:
This is a one-day intensive course in the concepts of interactive information visualization and their application to business data. Participants will learn the categories of data and applications where visualization is likely to be especially effective. They will learn the principles and criteria for optimizing these visualizations, and they will learn about software tools that are available. This course is valuable for data mining specialists, data managers and analysts, software engineers, programmers, systems analysts, planners, and documentation professionals.

Topics:
Introduction and overview of course; interactive visualization concepts; principles for application to business information; methods of interaction; modes of display; visualization tools available; dealing with large data and/or highly multidimensional data; designing effective interactive visualizations.
